The phone line's been dead for a while. We know a lot of people outthere have been expecting some kind of activity to pick up, or maybe even anofficial statement from us saying we call it quits. Instead the line stayedpretty much dead all year. We’re pleased to announce that this is about tochange soon, for the better we can assure you.

A short recap; as we were writing new material with a freshly recordedEP under the belt we lost our bass player during last spring. To our dismay ittook a long list of gruelling auditions to finally find our guy, but it was ok.We felt regenerated, up and ready to go!

The euphoria didn’t last long. Just two months in we had to part ways ashe had to leave due to personal circumstances. For us that meant back to squareone again!

With the sights set on possibly another few months of auditions, moralestarted sinking. Luckily for us, this time we didn’t have to look for long.

Just four days into auditions a very young lady came waltzing in to ourstudio. We hit it off right away, and despite her being a bit younger than therest of us, she knew the way on her instrument like anybody else in the room. Whatreally struck us the most, though, was her fresh outlook on the songs and theability to translate that freshness to ideas..

We didn’t dare ask ourselves; “could she be the one?”.

Yes she is!

The young lady, who will remain anonymous (for now), has been with usfor a few weeks now. We’re trying to get our act together as quickly aspossible, but you have to take in to account that it takes a little while toadjust to the new setup in personnel. So give us just a little bit more time toget properly prepared.

Collect Call from Mars is op zoek naar een nieuwe bassist(e)!

Wij zijn op korte termijn op zoek naar een nieuwe bassist. CCFM heeft een eigen oefenruimte (Amsterdam, melody line) waar we twee keer per week repeteren, heeft een booker, zijn bezig met een promo filmpje en hebben net een EP opgenomen. Wij willen weer veel optreden plus volgend jaar touren en zijn dus serieus aan de weg aan het timmeren.

Naar wie zijn wij op zoek?
-Een bassist met enige bandervaring (bij voorkeur eigen materiaal)
-Bereidheid om in ieder geval twee keer in de week te repeteren
-Enthousiast is en veel plezier heeft in het maken van muziek en optreden

Audities bassisten

Een groot filosoof zei ooit “you can’t always get what you want.” Helaas gaat dit ook op voor ons en de plannen die we voor dit jaar hadden gemaakt…

Helaas hebben wij onlangs afscheid moeten nemen van onze bassist Robbert. Na ruim vier jaar trouwe dienst bleken onze visies en ideeën toch niet genoeg overeen te komen.
In plaats van het inplannen van optredens (hopelijk ergens vlakbij jou!) moesten we dus ineens op zoek naar een nieuwe snarenplukker. We zitten inmiddels midden in de audities, een spannend proces, die ons hopelijk snel weer een complete band op zullen leveren. We willen ons zo snel mogelijk weer kunnen storten op het schrijven van nummers en heerlijk optreden, want dat is alweer veel en veel en veel te lang geleden. Wat we nu wel meer dan ooit kunnen beloven is dat wanneer wij weer gaan optreden jullie een heel ander CCFM gaan zien; nieuwe bandleden, nieuwe songs, nieuwe stijl! Nieuw, maar ook beter!
So please bare with us a little bit longer, we promise to make it worth your while…

The phone rings, interrupting the silence which had been going on for far too long.
We’re pleased to inform you that the long period of silence is about to be broken.

Time for a short recap: as you undoubtedly know, we’ve had a slight change in our line up when versatile keyboard player Barry joined the fold about a year and a half ago. At that time we had some gigs to attend to and little time to find our place within this new configuration, let alone write new material. Last summer, though, a new song called “Picture Frame” emerged. We hastily ran into the studio to record it, along with three other tracks.
Just as we were gaining some momentum, Barry decided that he wanted to do some studying abroad. Before we had any idea what was going on, the bags were packed and off he went to Norway. When he returned in January, it was back to square one.
Every downside has an upside though, as we now had time to determine our roles and find our new sound. Although it may have taken some time, the new songs are finally coming in and they’re shaping up nicely.
AND, we did have the four recorded tracks! We’ll let you in on a little secret; they’ve actually been finished last week and we’re all very pleased with the result! There are still some minor things which require attention, but you can expect to hear the fruits of our recording efforts very soon! Stay tuned for that.

So on to the present: at the moment we’re still very busy working on new material, but we intend to hit the stage again soon, maybe in an arena near you. So stick around, for we’ll call again soon!

What a year and what will the future bring?

This turned out to be a crazy year. Caron has been with us for a year now and Barry only for six months, but it feels like we've been playing together for years. Having fun, having the occasional quarrel every and of course having a beer (or two).

We've changed a lot musically this last year. We've grown as persons and artists and really like the direction this new collective is taking us. We've performed
a couple of times this year and did a lot of radio gigs, but mostly we've been focussing on getting acquainted with each other's musical backgrounds, playing styles, and additional talents Trying to figure out how we could make them work together. We've spent a lot of time practicing at the Melody Line developing our sound, writing new songs and playing along to a metronome. In the process actually even seeing more of each other than of our own families, but in the end it was worth it!

Due to Barry's departure to Norway (don't worry, he'll be back) there will be no public appearances until his return. This bought us some time to get the band ready for 2011. Jenny will be spending her time recording vocals (with Caron providing some assistance and backing vocals) for the new EP that we've been working on with Niels van Pelt. This EP will be bringing you five songs of which three are brand new ones. Additionally we will be looking for a booker and Robbert is secretly (oops..) working on a completely new website for CCFM. Ernesto Bos will be making a nice video for us, but we'll keep the details for ourselves for now.

Meanwhile, Caron has some more time to work on his drum 'n bass dj collaboration with Vinnie. They are called Mobility and will be part of the CCFM side projects called Creative Collective of Five Martians. Friday the 27th of August will also mark the start of their monthly 2 hour show "170 Feel" on Radio Aalsmeer.

Of course there are new songs to be written and we are still in contact with Barry a lot, for now he has internet at his room in Norway and he will be hearing from us regularly through long annoying chains of bandmail, whether he wants to or not. We have been working hard, planning and preparing for recordings and performances before Barry will leave us :( for a period abroad. From January 2011 we will be reunited again so we can rock again. But no worries, we still have two great performances before his departure. On August 7th we will have a live gig at Panama (www.panama.nl) in Amsterdam and on August 9th we will play an acoustic set on Dragnet @ Radio Aalsmeer (www.radioaalsmeer.nl) together with Fluid Essence (www.fluidessence.nl) & Wishbrothers .

Last weekend

Saturday was one hell of a crazy day! The sun was shining on the cage at KooiPop alright, we cannot remember ever performing in this kind of heat. We had a great time on stage and the new songs did their magic. After the gig we were sticky, hot, red headed and in need of some serious rehydration, but we had no time to chill out because Midpoint FM was expecting us for their WZZP show. So after the show we loaded everything back into the van again and drove off.

At Midpoint we were greeted by Andy, Eefje and Vincent. We ate some pizza, drank (boatloads of) coffee and did our sound check. WZZP gave a good and funny radio show with us performing six songs in between. Then out of the blue they asked us to create a radio jingle for them, that was a first for us. It was fun, we cranked out a decent jingle we reckon. But Eefje apparently wasn't satisfied enough so we also made an additional jingle especially for Eefje! Which mainly consisted of repeating her name a bunch, fun times.

Recordings of the radio show will be uploaded as soon as possible. Photo's have been taken by Tommy Neys again who joined us for the day. Thanks a lot Tommy! A big thanks goes out to Jan Gravesteijn for arranging the van, shooting video footage of us and putting up with us all day long. We had a good time all together and hope to be back on stage soon.

We thought we're going to have a couple of quiet months, because Barry will be leaving shortly to Norway for his study. So in preparation for that we figured it was best to put some final touches on new songs and complete the demo.
Turns out things are going to be a bit different, ain't it always...

First of all we had a good time last week doing Luilak night at radio Aalsmeer. We ended up doing our own show for about two hours, this was a surprise for us and a challenge. We felt like a couple of geeks trying to just say something, just anything, every time the "on air" button turned on.
Jen and Lody played acoustic versions of "Falling Away" and a new song "Shine over you", Caron did his Drum & Bass turntable magic. Then we laughed, stuttered and played some more.

I think after all we did not do such a bad job after all, but I will let you be the judge of that when the show comes online.

Secondly, next week is going to be deliciously busy for us, at first we only had another radio gig planned at Midpoint FM http://www.midpoint.fm/ the 5th of June.
We're going to play five songs live on air, of which two are new ones, and we'll be entertaining you with banter and music for about two hours (from 20:00 till 22:00) alongside our radio host Andy Teerlink.

And as extra surprise, it seems that we have another gig on the same day! Vincent from Kooipop called yesterday if we wanted to play at Kooipop the 5th of June from 16:20-17:20. Ehm YEAH! http://talentnight.popenpodium.nl/

Thanks everybody for a great show last thursday. We had a blast and hope you enjoyed it to. For now it is back to the recording and rehearsel studio. We need to finish up our new semi live demo, we need to write more songs and make a new website. We will upload some video footage and photo's of our gig at the Wilhelmina soon. For now our lines are busy, but we will be calling soon again......

So the phone lines have been dead for a while, but a lot of things have happened over the last few months. New jobs, new homes, new studies, but more important CCFM has recruited a keyboard player and has a different drummer nowadays. This meant spending a lot of time in the studio to get to know each other's personality, music preferences and playing style. This resulted in a new big musical style change for CCFM and a new set. And with new music, new plans for the future. The current step is to start performing again to see how you all like the new songs. This will be at the 15th of April 2010 at the Wilhelmina Pakhuis, Amsterdam along with the Zen mood setting band Fluid Essence and the dynamic Drumm&Bass duo Mobility. Hope to see you all there for our new era is about to begin.

We had a good time at Hogeschool Holland recording three songs and getting stuck there because of the snow. The recording sounds good already thanks to Ernesto and our management. They will be mixed hopefully in a week or two at the recording studio of the Birdbrains at the Kwakel and then posted everywhere for you to hear! Recording pics will also be online tonight.

Geweldige avond met Collect Call From Mars bij Dragnet op Radio Aalsmeer !!

Stukje van Dragnet: Afgelopen maandagavond was het dan zover. Een uitzending met een live optreden van Collect Call from Mars. Een dame en vier heren gaven een geweldig optreden weg.
18.15uur kwamen ze binnen om de boel op te bouwen, een volledige band met alles erop en eraan uurtje bezig geweest en ze konden gaan soundchecken.
Om 20.00uur kon het dan beginnen live en wel in de ether. Eerst even voorstellen wie zij zijn en wat voor instrument er bespeeld werd. De benodigde invloeden en inspiratiebronnen besproken en toen aan de gang laat maar horen en ons verbazen en dat is ze gelukt.
De setlist bestond uit negen nummers er werd afgetrapt met Love that night gevolgd door You know everything, Love/hate, Going out for dancing, Until I sleep again, On your own, Lucid, Take no shit, Falling away.
Stuk voor stuk mooie nummers met de diverse invloeden van de bandleden zelf. Ze zijn ieder verschillend op het gebied van inspiratiebronnen en dat valt te merken in de songs. Jennifer de zangeres ging helemaal op in het optreden. Op gitaar was er Lody, op de bas Robbert, de drums Caron en last but not least op de keys Barry.
De laatste twee heren zijn net bij de band aangesloten. Caron een maand of drie. Barry net vier weken. De toetsenist die de band nog niet had en dan in een korte periode zo presteren is puik werk.

Onze dank gaat uit naar de hele band. Wij hebben genoten en de luisteraars ook. Hopen dan ook binnenkort meer van ze te horen. Een tip hebben ze alvast meegekregen breng “Falling away”op single uit!
Hier volgt de reactie van de bandleden wat hun beleving is geweest die avond.

Stukje van CCFM: Back from the ether. Dit was de eerste keer voor CCFM dat we met z’n allen op de radio waren en live onze nummers speelden. We werden warm onthaald door Jan van Dragnet het programma op Radio Aalsmeer die ons meehielp de vele band spullen naar boven te sjouwen ( we really need roadies). Wat on air sound checks (aparte ervaring) en we konden spelen. Eindelijk konden we onze nieuwe aanwinst Barry aan de wereld laten zien (of in dit geval horen). We begonnen met Love that Night. Tussen de nummers door mochten wij in groepjes van 2 of 3 plaats nemen in het “verhoor kamertje”. Met de koptelefoons op en communicerend door een raampje met Jan en Koen (die er inmiddels ook bij was gekomen), werden de diepste geheimen van CCFM de ether in gestuurd. Ook waren Suzanne, zij had ons uitgenodigd voor het programma, en Leonie (ons management) erbij. Leonie dacht lekker onderuit te kunnen zitten, maar na wat technische problemen nam onze held Ernesto, die origineel meekwam om te filmen, het geluid voor zijn rekening. Leonie werd de film camera in de handen geduwd. Dat kan zij ook weer op haar CV zetten. Het filmpje komt eraan!
Uiteindelijk hebben we negen nummers gespeeld waarvan vijf met Barry. Om nog te antwoorden op de vraag die gesteld werd toen het geluid niet doorkwam. De Pet Shop Boys zijn uiteraard bekend bij ons..............lol.
Na het laatste nummer Falling away gespeeld te hebben werd ons op het hart gedrukt dat we dat nummer toch echt op single moeten uitbrengen. Het zal zo geschieden op 6&7januari bij Iam Contagious. Na veel koffie (Barry; er was geen bier, snik), hevig gerook en veel gekeet, werd het helaas weer tijd om alles in te pakken. Er werden nog snel over en weer T-shirts en handtekeningen uitgedeeld en er is een groepsfoto gemaakt voor het (eventuele) nageslacht! Het was zeker een memorabele avond en na lang overwegen zien we er toch maar vanaf een josti band te worden. Velen dank Dragnet en Radio Aalsmeer. We 'll be calling.

Short musical history:
I started playing the piano at the age of 13. From that moment on it became an addiction. I've played my first gig at the age of (I guess) 16 and for the majority i have played covers. It all began with performing on a little Casio keyboard which was my first 'digital instrument'. Quite rubbish to play with it live, but in a way it suited at that stage of my life. After playing in some coverbands now i finally got the chance to write my own music and be a part of a creative process.

What I still want to do in my life:
I still really want to play some gigs in England. Apart from that i think that making songs which got real emotions is important. Recording an album would be great, recording more would be perfect.

We have had a meeting this week with Marieke den Heijer. She is a student Event Management, works at P60 and is an event office operative. She offered to do promotion for us and we of course gladly accepted. Chance was that we had talked with Marieke about a proposal concerning a school project of afreind of her. When we came outside we bumped into that friend (Leonie). Leonie is a student International Music Management and with Nikki, Linda and Nadja they are called Influenza Artist Management (I.A.M. Contageous)and will now manage our band for the next ten weeks! More news about this soon.

CCFM has also been interviewed by Radio Aalsmeer last Monday. You can listen to it on http://radioaalsmeer.nl/player/datum=2009-11-16 , Dragnet : 20:45. In addition we have been invited to play live on 14th of December at their studio. We will be playing about nine songs and have been asked to bring songs that have inspired us over the years. We will keep you updated.

So that was our last gig for a while. We played at the Winston and had a blast.
Thanx for all the support over the last months. It really means a lot to us.
For now we will lock ourselves up at the melody line to rewrite most of our songs
and to write a lot of new songs with our new keyboard player Barry. Yezz indeed, the
next time that you will see us it will no longer be just the four of us. In addition we
have a new fotoshoot planned and a compilation video of our gigs is in the making.
A lot is happening in our little world in Amsterdam. We will keep you updated. In the
mean time we are very interrested in your opinions about our songs. So go to our

Zo inmiddels weer bijgekomen van Halloween. Was een goed feestje en we hebben genoten met het optreden. Was erg leuk een keer zombie te zijn en jullie allen de zombie walk te zien doen. Als het goed is komt de video snel. Wederom bedankt dat jullie er waren. Zijn er mensen die nog foto's hebben, want die van ons zijn helaas mislukt. Verkeerde instellingen op de camera. That was one hell of a Lowlands last weekend, we enjoyed it and saw some truly epic shows. (Faith No More, Them Crooked Vultures, Grace Jones)

Sunday next week we'll be playing in the Panama for the Best of Live! After seeing all those great bands last weekend we're itching. We're playing that show because we've been selected out of all the bands that played there the last year, there will also be a jury present, consisting out of music business professionals like Stacey Rookhuizen and Meindert Bussink. With a vote at the end of the evening to decide who is Panama's Best of Live.

Meet Caron.

The others kind of forced me to write a little piece of introduction for you all about, well… myself. So here goes
My name is Caron, 28 years of age, I play drums (and piano and a little bit of guitar), and I have a soft spot for vocal harmonies.
My love for music got ignited by watching music videos while I was still wearing diapers. I grew fascinated by the way some videos were able to translate the overall feel of the song. When I got introduced to my mother’s record collection, and primarily to the Beatles and Queen, it was only a matter of time before I would pick up an instrument of my own.
My mother was very reluctant to let me play drums at first, so I started out playing the piano when I was about 10. About five years later I was able to pick up the drumsticks after all. Half a year later I got into my first band, and through my newly found friends I met up with Lody and Robbert while attending weekly hang outs at a friend’s place.
A few years later I would be playing in a band with them as a stand in for their drummer who left the country for a few months. It was a great experience, and when their drummer returned we went our separate ways. It took us a long time before we would meet up again in this fashion.
I met up with the whole band while being on holiday with a group of common friends. Two months later, I got the call, although not a collect one. The rest, as they say, is history.
I hope I’ll be able to fill the void left by Tommy’s departure, but I’ll certainly give it my best shot! I’m looking forward to making a lot of collect calls to all!!

Big news! Due to the cheesy reason of artistic differences with our lovely drummer Tommie, we've decided a while ago to go our separate ways.

Luckily for the rest of us Caron, a good friend, was immediately interested in filling the seat behind the drum kit. After jamming with him over the last month or so we know that he's the right guy for Collect Call from Mars and decided to give him a permanent position. (All very official, well, every excuse for a party counts!)

In the coming days we'll force him to write something about himself which will be posted here.

We are back again from an insane holiday in a Castle in the Ardennen. Lots of new impressions, new and old friends, new ideas but overall lots of alcohol.

So as a fresh start we would like to inform you about the three new demo songs which you can now listen to on www.collectcallfrommars.com(Going Out For Dancin’, Love That Night and Lucid).

Secondly, we are very busy making music video’s of the material gathered over the past few months (including the Ardennen trip), but it seems that the video program loves to challenge us, so it will take a bit longer then expected. Therefore we will post some embarrassing pictures soon.

We also have a new show coming up the 30th of May at the Meander. More information about this gig will be presented shortly on our website.

Playing at the finals of the Popprijs at the P60 was great. We played more songs then expected and met some old and new people. A big congratulations to the Tomas Day Band for winning this year!

For now were going on a little holiday in the Ardennes, which each and everyone of us really needs by now.

We had an old time blast at the P60. Thanks everybody who came out to support us again! There will be some video footage of this gig soon, but right now we are experiencing some audio difficulties.....

We had a really good time last Friday at the N201. A very warm thanks you to the people who came out to see us and made it a great evening! Some photo's and video material of the evening will be posted on our sites soon.

For the people who missed it, we are back at the P60, Amstelveen on 12-03-2009. The evening will start around nine o' clock. We'll be entertaining you that night with two other local bands; The Birdbrains and the The Civets. You can buy the tickets with us for € 5,- a piece.

We are performing again!!!!!!

We will be playing sets of 45 minutes at the P60 (12-03-09, Amstelveen , The Netherlands) and the N201(27-02-09, Aalsmeer, The Netherlands) along with three other bands. We are thrilled to tell all of you we WON ! ! ! We became first in the finals of the PopPrijs Amstelland en Meerlanden 2008. This means we will be playing Houtnacht in Haarlem and we get a day recording time at Studio Peggy51, and yes this is the same studio we recorded our demo at. Also the P60 will arrange a couple of gigs all through the Netherlands. So you all will be hearing a lot of us in the short future. We'll keep you posted!

We have two new shows to announce. First is on February 1st in Zaandam, in 't Makerijtje. The second show is the 9th of February at the Bajes, Amstelveen. This will be the first round of the Popprijs Amstelland en Meerlanden 2008. Please all make the trip to Amstelveen to support us, because there will be a public voting and we sure wanna make it to the Finals in the P60.

Wow that was such a blast yesterday! We still can't believe we won our qualifying round of the Amsterdam PopPrijs yesterday. This means we will be playing the semi finals in Paradiso.
